Walk Sheffield's Heritage Booklet
Walk Sheffield Heritage Booklets are a good read about the fascinating history of the city of Sheffield, even
if you cannot get to walk around the recommended area. To quote the introduction ....
"Sheffield is a great city. It has been responsible for many aspects of our modern way of life and, no matter
where you go in the world, you are sure to find something which had its origins in the City of Sheffield, Yorkshire.
Famous for cutlery, the home of Stainless Steel, the producer of tools, implements and munitions that shaped many
emerging nations in the 19th and 20th Centuries, the city still produces vast quantities of specialised steel for
export to all parts of the globe.
Recovery from the impact of losing 50,000 jobs during the 1980's from the closure of all the places of mass employment
in steel related industries has been slow. The Sheffield based film "The Full Monty" covers this part of our story.
However, the Sheffield of today is said to produce more steel from seven main factories than at the height of the
Second World War, when there were over 200 factories."
The 32 page full colour booklet contains a host of new photographs and has been produced to give people a flavour of
this great industrial powerhouse as it was, and as it is today.
